It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the second edition of “Tourmaline Lanka”, a publication that focuses solely on the fascinating world of gem and jewelry. We published the first edition of the magazine last year and I must say the feedback from the gem and jewelry industry has been very encouraging. They collectively stated that a professionally-crafted, informative magazine that helps to educate the industry and brings attention to the world-class gems and jewelry of Sri Lanka was long overdue.

In this second edition, we have focused on the Sri Lankan sapphire (Ceylon sapphire). The blue sapphires of Sri Lanka are desired the world over for their exceptional color, clarity and beauty. This extraordinary stone has been acknowledged to be superior in value and splendor to sapphires found in other countries across the globe. In this edition, we have explored the various aspects of the Ceylon sapphires to give you valuable insights into this gemstone and why it has captivated the whole world.

About the Editor
Kasun graduated as a gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and was working as a Valuer Gemologist at the National Gem and Jewellery Authority of Sri Lanka when he was chosen for the Consultant Gemologist at Belle Etoile Gem and Jewelry Company in Japan. This gave him the chance to expand his knowledge into another area of gemology via the “special energy division” of Belle Etoile, Ginza, Japan. It has been 7 years since Kasun completed his studies in gemology and he has remained steadfastly committed to the gem and jewelry industry.
